Google and South Africa Team Up to Boost Tourism
South Africa and Google collaborate to boost tourism without cash transactions. Google shares global travel insights and strategies for tailored visitor experiences, supporting South Africa’s Ministry of Tourism. The partnership aims to digitize more tourist sites, train startups, and enable global competitiveness for small businesses.
Signed in Cape Town by Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille and Google’s Alistair Mokoena, the agreement leverages Google’s tech expertise to promote South Africa as a prime tourist destination. Alistair Mokoena mentions showcasing South African tourism on Google’s Arts and Culture platform.
International tourist arrivals in South Africa surged by 70.6% in the first seven months of 2022, totaling 4.8 million. A positive sign for tourism recovery, the ministry predicts exceeding the 2019 record of 10 million arrivals by March 2023.
The collaboration emphasizes Google’s support for South Africa’s tourism, offering valuable insights, training, and digital tools to enhance global visibility and competitiveness for local businesses.
