Tech Advancements in Saudi Arabia: AI Initiatives Flourish
Saudi Arabia is investing in its technological future with the launch of the AIM initiative, a part of the National Programme for Information Technology Development (NPITD). In collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), AIM aims to train over 1,000 skilled engineers in machine learning and AI. This initiative aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, focusing on economic diversification and innovation. With partnerships with the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, AIM seeks to establish a robust AI ecosystem, creating linguistic AI models tailored for various industries and government applications. Additionally, SDAIA’s efforts to empower women in AI through education and specialized programs play a crucial role in advancing Saudi Arabia’s technological landscape.
Meanwhile, Saudi Aramco, a key player in the Kingdom’s economy, is leveraging AI to enhance its operations. At the annual LEAP tech conference, the company unveiled its first generative AI model, Aramco Metabrain AI. With an impressive 250 billion parameters, the AI model has been trained using vast amounts of data spanning over 90 years of the company’s history. This AI technology is poised to revolutionize various aspects of Aramco’s operations, from analyzing drilling plans and geological data to providing precise forecasts for refined products. The development of Aramco Metabrain AI underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to embracing cutting-edge technologies to drive growth and efficiency across sectors.
